I have to say so far it’s been a great year…

Its January, New Year, heck a new decade so I guess a lot of you have made resolutions (hopefully they haven’t been broken yet). I’ve decided to be resolute. There are those out there, you are more then welcome to join me.


For the fence sitter it’s time to get her that engagement ring, you never know what her resolution is so for your sake hope it’s not a ticking clock.

For the guy who blew it at Christmas thankfully Valentine’s Day approaches quickly and at Shenoa Diamonds we have the diamond bracelets and diamond studs to choose from that have gotten many men out of the doghouse. Heck, what happen to the just because gift!!!

Well, here at Shenoa Diamonds we are in the home stretch; Christmas is right around the corner, snow is on, the way looks like we are going to have a White Christmas. 11 days to Christmas…Trials and tribulations of a gentleman named I. B. Putz

11 days to Christmas…

It’s like a truck careening downhill, on an ice covered road with no brakes and the end of the road is coming up fast!

So if you indulge me for a moment let me relate the trials and tribulations of a gentleman named I. B. Putz. See Mr. Putz shops two ways; one year he’ll stop by Shenoa Diamonds, starting in September, searching for that perfect Christmas gift for his wife. It will entail weekly visits; one week we’ll look at diamond studs and never quite come together on the proper size. The next week we’ll look at diamond pendants and the right shape will be the obstacle, on and on. Diamond bracelets, too flashy. Okay, next week diamond and sapphire rings, not quite sure. What eventually happens is Mrs. Putz ends up with the short end of the stick again.

The other Mr. Putz, well he shows up with an ambitious agenda on Christmas Eve; the type of agenda that as a designer I know well it would take up 6 weeks to fulfill. While we fill the portions of it that we can, this Mrs. Putz is also, shortchanged.

The morals of this story:

1) As discussed previously focus on your options and the make a well informed decision.

2) The 5 P’s of smart shopping. They are… drum roll please: PROPER PLANNING PREVENTS A PISS-POOR PERFORMANCE

Random thoughts…

17 days to Christmas, how fast it comes!

Diamonds are a guy’s best friend and you ask why? Well I’ll tell you; have any of you ever given your wife/girlfriend some sort of diamond and not had her thrilled with it and you?

Yes there is a Santa and my children are living proof. I see it in their eyes and hear it in their voices to think, at times I was skeptical silly me!

Shenoa Diamonds rocks this time of the year; it’s a ton of fun to be associated with it. The only drawback is, it keeps me away from my family but they understand.


Diamond stud earrings and diamond bracelets are running neck and neck as this year’s “it” gift, you can’t be wrong with either.

I am wishing for a white Christmas, I don’t have to drive this year. I know it’s slightly selfish but it’s been a long time since we’ve had one… think, it would be cool!!!

I wish everyone was as nice all year long as they are at this time of year, I mean I’m in New York and only been told where to a couple of times this month, a new record!

I may be prejudiced but I still recommend buying your girl diamond jewelry, the flat screen can wait!

It will be a Blue Christmas without…

Nice little boxes full of sparkling diamonds… that’s why this one is for the guys. I’m speaking man to man here and I will repeat my quote “Happy wife = Happy Husband”, no truer words have ever been spoken and gentleman at Shenoa Diamonds we have the answers to that equation.


Now all you need to do is take a jewelry inventory of what your wife has and then you will be able to fill in the blanks. Goes like this, well Barbara has diamond studs, a beautiful diamond engagement ring as well as a diamond bracelet. She did drop a hint that she wants that diamond band that has a little antiquish style to it, well you just filled in a blank. I bet comes Christmas day Barbara and her betrothed have one great day.

Annie’s had a rough December and JT knows it so this year he’s getting her that diamond necklace, he realizes things are tight but he knows he can’t take it with him and those accessories for the boat can wait and besides she’s been waiting for that necklace for years.

It’s all about you…

When I write these pieces they are meant for you, our customer and friend or future one. These stories are meant to educate, stir passion, and perhaps interest but all along they are for you.

They are for Joe who’s scraped together a couple of thousand through hard work to spend on an engagement ring for his girlfriend Mary, he knows it’s not a ton of money but you know what, to him it is so he needs to be treated like he’s spending a million bucks. The important part is that Joe is treated specially, not rushed by some uncaring salesperson that shows him one ring and flatly states, that’s what he can afford; take it or leave it. No way no how that is going to happen at Shenoa & Co. if I have anything to do with it. Joe will be treated as if he’s my most important customer because at that time he is and it is paramount that we find a diamond ring for Mary that is spectacular for her and that Joe is proud to give it to her.

If I’ve learned anything is that the Joes in this world turn into lifelong customers who will recommend all friends and families when treated respectfully and fairly.

These stories are for Isabella who just landed that big promotion at her job and wants to treat herself to diamond earrings I know for a fact that most sales people blow off single woman because they feel that they are not buyers, not at Shenoa, we will spend the time to find the right pair of earrings. Hey Isabella, you know you are important, we think so too.

They are for a guy named Miles who he knows that he short changed his wife last Christmas but the economy stunk and he didn’t really feel comfortable with his standing at his job so he held off. Well not this Christmas, come hell or high water Jacqueline is getting that fancy yellow diamond ring that she’s had her eye on. Miles has been a longtime customer at Shenoa and knows their selection is unparalleled so this year it’s happening, hell you can’t take it with you, no time like the present.

A little story…

My husband, being unhappy with my mood swings bought me a mood ring the other day so he would be able to monitor my mood swings better.

We discovered that when I’m in a good mood it turns bright green!

Better yet when I’m in a bad mood, it leaves a big red mark on his freaking forehead.

Maybe next time he’ll buy me a diamond instead!!!


That is an example of what I tend to repeat ad nauseam that a happy wife/girlfriend equals a happy husband/boyfriend. Observations…

You all know by now that I gain part of my instinct and knowledge through observation and then I use that in my sales and design work; here are some examples:

Customers usually go back to their original choice, not all the time but quite often. An example of this is the young lady I was working with lately on a diamond mounting. She picks a ring similar to the one pictured, and then we are off to the races looking at many options. While we started with the split shank with trapezoids we progress to classic three stone mountings on to antique style after a couple of well spent hours she settles on her original choice, life comes full circle yet again. Like I said it happens all the time.

The classics are classic for a reason, they are timeless. The three stone diamond mounting, 4 prong style diamond tennis bracelet, the Riviera diamond tennis necklace, they all have been around for many years and will be around for many more, and by the way micro pave is the new contemporary classic here to stay.

The number one diamond gift item for the holidays will continue to be diamond stud earrings; they are truly a no-brainer. The girls can wear them with anything; dress them up dress, them down. Do you want to be a hero this Christmas? Get her diamond studs... trust me.

All women are beautiful diamonds just enhance their beauty and make them happy, trust me again guys you want them happy.

Rainy Days and Mondays…

Well, here in New York we’re about to loose the whole weekend to back to back Nor’easters, there goes my plans for golf and running around with the kids outside as the days are getting shorter.

What that does afford me is time to plan and at Shenoa & Co. Diamonds it means I go over our in house stock. Hey the holidays are upon us, no time like the present. I am presently filling the gaps in our Diamond Stud Earring sizes that include adding 0.70ct – 1.00ct total weight sizes; I found that we have an ample supply of 2.00 cts. to 3.00 cts. total weight, great for the customer that’s thinking of upgrading.

Diamond bracelets are always popular this time of year and I feel that you will be quite happy with the selection we now have in house; from the classic tennis bracelet style to the more fashion oriented. There are styles here at Shenoa & Co. Diamonds that should fit anyone’s taste and most people’s budget.

I’m not forgetting the bridal crowd either; I am introducing some exciting new styles (I highly recommend making the trip to our showroom in the Diamond District in New York City and checking them out yourselves). Micro Pave is still HOT and the three-stone look remains quite strong. I’m telling you our showroom window on 47th street looks like HIGBEE’s from ‘The Christmas Story” only instead of toys they are Diamonds.

So on this rainy weekend I will find the time to plan, to build and to create, surly beats just complaining about the weather!

When buying a diamond engagement ring guys don’t lose the romance factor, surprise her! It is commendable and rewarding. If a surprise is not in order then get engaged somewhere cool, you’ll create a memory for life trust me I’ve got one.

Looking for the right jeweler, trust your inner instincts, most people don’t like pushy people, why would you want a pushy jeweler?



Stress stinks when buying diamonds and/or diamond jewelry, to lower the stress factor one way is by creating a budget and sticking to it make the jeweler work for you not the other way around. If you know what you want to spend that’s half the battle, trust me it will keep the blood pressure lower.

Diamond gift ideas; pick something she doesn’t have. Do a mental inventory:

1. Ears – Diamond studs perhaps diamond earrings


2. Wrist – Diamond bracelet or a diamond bangle


3. Fingers- God gave them 10 so after the engagement ring there are many more options: diamond band, sapphire and diamond ring, etc

It’s October, if you go to the local malls they are already decorating for Christmas, what I’m advocating is that it’s been a tough year, don’t you think that special person in your life deserves something special? If your answer is yes now is a good time to firm up the planning, trust me on this one.

If you’re sitting on the fence it’s time to jump off, there is nothing more fulfilling in life then a well grounded relationship, one that is full of love and understanding. It took me awhile to figure it out but even the blind squirrel finds an acorn

This one is goin’ to be big Louie!!!

Ah, alas September is upon us autumn is around the corner, football season is starting, before you know it the holidays will be here. So today, boys and girls, let’s talk about planning.


Planning is important with many occasions but especially when one is planning to get an engagement ring or a wedding band or perhaps a diamond gift for the holidays. Right now, as we speak I am in the middle of delivering wedding bands for 7 different couples all getting married on the 19th of September how cool is that?? Some of these folks were well prepared and planned ahead while others waited to the last minute (which is not a problem as we at Shenoa Diamonds are well prepared to service the customers quickly with custom work).

What I’m driving at is, you the individual set your own goals and when doing so one of them should be the timeframe you’re looking at. I can give you recommendations but you ultimately have to set up you own parameters.

My Suggestions:

- The wedding band should be selected 3 months before the wedding (having married recently I know the list of things-to-do gets longer as the date approaches, not shorter so the things you can get done get done).

- Diamond engagement ring, when you are ready go about making your decision in a timely fashion over shopping or taking too much time will wear on you and your fiancé.

- Shopping for a holiday gift; guys get it over with, you who wait for the last minute pay a higher premium either in price or selection (that is coming from the ultimate procrastinator).

Again these are only suggestions but they come backed by years of experience; Happy Hunting!!!!

Happy Labor Day from Shenoa Diamonds!

Hello all, Kerry Ryan here…

As we approach the Labor Day holiday let us all remember that is to honor those who’ve served this country we hold so dear. It’s easy to write about diamonds and rings and earrings as well as the stories that come about when selling them or just trying to.

We will spend this weekend with friends and family at barbeques perhaps the beach or mountains or touring one of our great cities, in doing so just take a little timeout to remember those that have preceded us and those that aren’t able to do so because they are in some far off country protecting us and those around them. It will take just a few small moments and you’ll be better for it.

I will be at Shenoa Diamonds through Saturday then off to celebrate this holiday with my brood and a few friends, we will hoist a few to the aforementioned men and women. I welcome all to join me.

Happy engagement stories from Shenoa & Co....

Got a little feedback on my last blog post, here is a finer engagement story…

Guy goes on vacation to the ‘Joisey Shore’, last thing on his mind are diamond rings, diamond studs, or diamond bracelets. Let’s face it he’s there to catch some rays, eat some seafood, and to sample tequila shots, but as most stories start that’s seldom how they end.

A few days into his trip a friend comes down and tells him that he’s moving out of state; these guys are close so they decide to go out to dinner to celebrate this new beginning. They pick a local restaurant and off they go, as they are seated at the table the waitress comes to take the order, the guy never being bashful asks the waitresses’ name, she states “I’m Jackie” ( guy later finds out that waitress has never given real name to customer before fate at work), well they proceed to have a great meal helped along by the great service from Jackie. Guy leaves generous tip.

Later that evening guy goes back to local for a nightcap; across the bar is aforementioned waitress. Guy sends over a drink. Jackie says” if you remember my name I’ll except!” Not knowing that guy has impeccable memory he simply states” Jackie”. They proceed to party the night and most of guy’s vacation away.

Flash forward; guy and Jackie will be celebrating their 5th anniversary on September 10th…

Fancy is great but sometimes simple can be better…

Fancy is great but sometimes simple can be better…


You may ask yourself just what I mean by that, well I’ll tell you. In the above picture you see two fancy yellow diamonds surrounded by small round brilliant-cut diamond set micro-pave’ style, let’s face it these are gorgeous fancy diamonds earrings. I made them and in my opinion these are occasion pieces, meant to be worn on special occasions: weddings, black tie affairs, red carpets etc.

Well, as I said in my opening statement sometimes simple is better and what can be simpler then a pair of Diamond Studs. Diamond studs are probably the best gift a man can give to a woman other than children and an engagement ring. They can be dressed up or dressed down; they can be worn for all occasions or none at all. They are simple diamond beauty in a non complicated setting. Diamond studs are all about the diamond, no fuss no muss.

They are a great gift; guys as I’ve said before diamond studs are a no brainer, if you’re not ready to pop the question then they’ll buy you time (keep the wolves from the door as they say).You’ll also find that no matter how many pairs of earrings your girlfriend/wife has, they will wear the diamond studs at least 90% of the time. They also make great holiday, birthday and anniversary gifts. I can assure you that this is one gift that you won’t have to worry over; they’ll love them and love you for giving them.

Girls what can be better than something that goes with everything, how many things in your wardrobe can you say do that. You know life is easy when one realizes it doesn’t take much to make someone happy (and that includes yourself). The family is down by me for vacation, you know fun in the sun at the Jersey Shore. Well, as I have shared with you before my kids love their aunts and uncles and always have a blast when they are around them. Really have to thank Uncle Keith and Aunt Anita for those golf clubs they gave them, they are beating each other with them as I write this…Cool!!!

What I’m trying to relate is it doesn’t take much to make special people in your life happy. Sometimes it’s just a simple question like; “Will You Marry Me?” I recommend asking this one with a diamond engagement ring in close proximity.

How about “Happy Birthday Honey” preferably spoken with a gift of diamond stud earrings in your pocket especially when it is an important number i.e. 25, 30, 40 etc., you get the point.

“For our 10th I have something special planned” really recommend someplace special, a great restaurant, perhaps a getaway weekend and with this I recommend a diamond eternity band to top it off.

These are all easy ways to keep that special someone happy, they just take a little time and money, when spent is well invested because as far as I’m concerned there is no better investment then each other.

Got to run now, Brenden just hit a nice approach shot just one small issue Kayla’s the ball at the moment!!!

Reap the rewards…

Just back from vacation with the family where we visited Nana and Boss in the fine state of Texas, I’ll tell you there is nothing like celebrating July 4th with a great bunch of down home Texans and their great sense of Americana truly a sight to behold.

As I was putting my three year old daughter to bed after one of the finest 4th of July parties I’ve ever been to, I asked her one question.” Kayla honey did you have a good time?” and her simple reply was started with a wide grin,” Dad I had fun” and she gently drifted off to sleep. That was all I needed a simple answer to a simple question resulting in a great reward.

What I’m driving at is the great rewards reaped from simple questions in example:

Carrying the newly purchased diamond engagement ring while walking the beach at sunset John gets down on bended knee and says,” Mary will you marry me?” with a smile on her face and slight tears in her eyes Mary simply states,” Yes John, I love you!” they embrace.

Simple question great rewards…

Annie’s pissed JT obviously has forgotten their anniversary again, and to top it off he’s scheduled a fishing trip and it’s their tenth to top it off! JT asks Annie to go into the garage and look in his old tackle box for the three ounce sinkers he’s missing. While Annie would rather tell him where to stick those three ounce sinkers, she dutifully trudges off and locates the tackle box, opens it and immediately sees a long wrapped box, as she opens it to find a beautiful diamond tennis bracelet, she turns around and spots a grinning JT with slight tears in her eyes they embrace…

Simple question great rewards…

The law degree Regina was to attain was due to long hours and perseverance, graduation day was upon her because of all the hard work she’s put in she feels disconnected from her family. Well the big day is here and as she’s dressing her father asks,” Regina honey can you try these on and see if they fit?” Well she turns around and there is her beaming mother holding a pair of diamond stud earrings, with slight tears in her eyes and a smile on her face they all embrace as her father states, “We’ve never been prouder”
