 Wishing all the will to  attain their dreams and the hope that you get there!!!!!!

  Resolutions…….

     A new year has begun and with it come the resolutions  made some attainable and others far-fetched, you know the usual: lose   weight, quit  smoking, and work out and the far- fetched: lose weight, quit smoking,   and work  out.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

 Well at Shenoa & Co. We try to keep the resolutions  within reason and this year is no different let me give you an overview:

1)       Customer  Service this always takes priority at Shenoa and we will review what we did in  2010 and tweak what we think is necessary for 2011 an example being: will be  better educating our customers about costs where we used to not charge for  certain repairs with the spiraling prices of precious metals we can no longer  do so. While we feel our customers will understand a thorough explanation will  go a long way in helping their understanding.

 

2)       Inventory  will be revamped and refreshed, while maintaining our cutting edge into newer  designs and experimentation, we will not forsake the classics (they are  classics for a reason), we will take a long hard look at older pieces and see  if they are still viable, again we look forward to introducing new styles of  engagement rings, wedding bands, diamond bracelets and necklaces while keeping  in mind the need for the staples: diamond studs, classic tennis bracelets and  necklaces etc.

 3)       With great  anticipation that 2011 will be a better year then 2010 we look forward to  expanding our diamond inventory strongly feeling that the strength of the  Cushion Cut and Radiant Cut Diamond will continue to be in high demand. This is  a resolution we make every year and if you stop by Shenoa & CO you’ll  see for yourself that our inventory of loose diamonds is unparalleled, so that  is an open invite ladies and gentlemen.

 

       Personally I wish to be  in better contact with my customer base; I welcome all feedback and look  forward to our little talks. I will be introducing new styles in the upcoming  weeks and months and promise that you all will be the first to preview

 

        While this may  not be a resolution as I do often I invite one and all to stop by the store in  NYC the actual address is 1 West 47th Street between 5th and  6th Ave so if you are making a trip to NYC come knock on our door we  would be happy to see you, remember we are open 7 days a week so there are no  excuses.  Make this the year you bring that special someone in or yourself  in to pick something up for that special someone. Life is more then a point and  click, human interaction can never be replaced by a screen and a keyboard so  stop on by we’ll have a smile waiting for you and go on from there.

 

Okay guys that’s a few I’m sure there’s  more and we will get to them eventually…….

Anticipation is making me great..... the season is almost here

Anticipation is making me great……………………………

Well, March has thankfully arrived, and here at Shenoa Diamonds we anticipate a booming bridal season; and in anticipation, I am introducing new and exciting styles. As most weddings are between April and September, and most engagements, last a year, it means that most engagement rings are given between April and September. So, that is the main reason we tend to introduce new styles at this time of the year.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the new micro pave style or the twist we’ve added to the classic three stone engagement ring. We try to stay cutting edge. If you have time to travel and visit us here in New York, myself or one of my co-workers would be thrilled to show you what’s new. We have a great staple of current and classic styles that cover all spectrums something for everybody. How to give him the right directions when he is shopping for the perfect diamond engagement ring for you

Let’s hear it for the Girls!!!

Okay let’s stay in the suggestion venue and with get to the today’s topic: Ladies, this one’s mostly directed towards you. We men, when it’s boiled down are really quite simple. A good meal, a nice drink, someone to love and simple directions are our basic needs.

So let’s talk about simple directions to give to the guys when it’s your jewelry needs that are concerned. Let’s face it; most men abhor shopping including myself. I buy; I don’t shop so when I walk into a store it’s with every intention of buying what I went in there for. So ladies how do you help your man arrive at the buying stage; here are some simple suggestions:

- Do the shopping for him; while some men like the whole experience of picking out a diamond engagement ring from start to finish, most prefer to just be there for the finishing stages. So girls, figure out the style of engagement ring that you like (giving the guy a few choices empowers him), go out with your girlfriends, mom, sisters etc. to find out what you like and then convey it to him.

- Be reasonable, don’t shoot for the stars, guys tend to think with their wallet so maybe the two of you should get a feeling for his budget. If shopping with him then try not to pick out the most expensive ring, 1st lead him that way if the budget allows

- As a man myself our attention span isn’t as long as yours so if shopping together go to a couple of stores, not all of them

- Remember most women are size oriented and men are quality oriented, the need to find a happy medium is imperative.

- I say this in almost all my articles; if you are together, have fun, engagement ring shopping should be a fun and rewarding experience three words: Live-Laugh-Love

- Men have to do this on a full stomach and that goes for most things in life (this is probably the most important suggestion; hungry men tend to be cranky).

So that’s enough for today, don’t get me wrong there are guys out there that are super control freaks and need to analyze things to the nth degree, for these gentleman we at Shenoa Diamonds are prepared also but alas that is another day’s lesson.

How to find the perfect diamond…

In this imperfect world we strive to find perfect things in our lives; being this is a diamond and jewelry forum, let’s talk about finding the perfect diamond today.

Well to do so, you have to determine what defines perfect to you; for some perfect is the highest color, for others it could be the largest size, yet others still it could be what fits into one’s budget. There are many factors that may play into what one considers when they select their “perfect” diamond. How do you go about this? Well here are some simple suggestions:


-If you’re doing this as a couple then be open with each other about what is most important to you, and then find a middle ground; marriage is based on compromise and teamwork, this is just the start.

-Guys, determine a comfortable budget and then let that dictate what options will be the driving force. I don’t care how much one is willing to spend; no budget is ever open ended.

-Ladies, the way you set your diamond lends to its perfectness so help the boys out and give them concrete options or strict directions.

-Just because the diamond is graded D color - IF clarity doesn’t mean it’s perfect, there are more factors such as cut, dimensions and size that come into play. They are all equally important.

-While round shape diamonds have a formula, fancy shapes do not; you need to determine what shape that you like and go from there.

-Have flexibility, you might surprise yourself a little, flexibility can go a long way to determining with what you end up purchasing.

-Lastly; have fun, don’t make it a chore, and enjoy yourself. This is a life changing event and should be done so with great cheer.

Well, there are some simple suggestions, I know I have more but there’s no point in overdoing it today. We have many more days in front of us at Shenoa Diamonds.

First lesson of the year: Get her the diamond engagement ring she wants

Let the games begin…

It’s January; it’s a start of a new year and a new decade so let’s begin with a very simple lesson gentlemen.

Get her what she wants; if you adhere to this simple mantra, life will be so much easier. We (meaning us men) tend to let our tastes and wishes cloud our thoughts, we (not always intentionally) go out to make a purchase with our own pre conceived conditions and notions. Humor me by letting me explain with a simple example:



Young lady walks into my store and asks to see some loose diamonds so we sit down and after a few questions we start to look at a square radiant cut 1 carat to 1.25 carats size. Karen (not her real name) picks out a 1.18 carats F color VS2 clarity because she likes as she describes the star burst (brilliance). Just so she’s sure Karen asks to see squarish cushion-cut diamonds and I, of course oblige.

Bang Zoom!!!

Karen falls in love with a 1.25 carat H color SI2 clarity. Why? Because this diamond talks to her and trust me for those that go about this purchase with emotion and whimsy, the diamond you settle upon will talk to you. The ones that purchase a diamond purely on technical standpoint miss out on a lot (but that’s another lesson, stay on point Ryan). Karen loves everything about this diamond and I mean everything, I was there. So she asks if I could hold it to the side so her boyfriend can come and look at it, no problem.

Let’s skip ahead to the boyfriend and herein lies the lesson. Mike (again not his real name) stops by the store and asks to see the diamond again; I oblige and show him the cushion-cut that Karen has taken a shine to. After looking at it Mike says he saw an F VS2 in another store that was similar size more money and ask me to show him others like that I oblige. See here lies the lesson:

Mike/Man: Quality driven before anything else can’t believe girlfriend pick a slightly lower quality diamond.

Me/Old Sage: Mike, life lesson, get her what she likes; she’s the one wearing it and guess what it cost $1500 less then the quality you’re thinking about.

So we leave it at that. They will come back together and look at more loose diamonds, again I will be more than happy to oblige but I’ll tell you now Mike get her what SHE wants, she’s the one wearing it!!!

While visions of thrilled women danced in their heads

The stockings were stuffed with diamonds and hung by the fire with care
And soon would be opened with joy to be shared
Myself and my co workers had had it at last
So we opened some vodka to have one last blast

To all of our wonderment what did finally appear?
But a tiny little elf and eight tiny reindeer
With a wink and a nod he sprang from his sled
And joined in our toast with a shake of his head

As we hugged and shook hands we finally did hear

2 days to go!!!

I know of some very lucky wives and girlfriends that are getting something special this year. The men in their lives were determined to make this a special Christmas this year and for those that did good for them.

The guys that strike me funny at this time of year are the ones who come in the store and flatly state “just looking”, as a former boyfriend and currently a husband, 2 days before Christmas the just looking part should be over and done with and the just buying part should be the whole program. Really guys, what could you possibly be just looking for at this time of year other then some unhappy woman in your life on Christmas day? Trust me those that just look themselves into a scarf this Christmas better stock up on brandy for their eggnog so they have some company this Christmas night.

Let’s go back to the guys who did their girls a solid this holiday, good for you, you will be rewarded in more ways then one; wink wink, nod nod!

Hey it’s nice to make a holiday special but in these uncertain times it’s even nicer cheers to you all!

11 days to Christmas…Trials and tribulations of a gentleman named I. B. Putz

11 days to Christmas…

It’s like a truck careening downhill, on an ice covered road with no brakes and the end of the road is coming up fast!

So if you indulge me for a moment let me relate the trials and tribulations of a gentleman named I. B. Putz. See Mr. Putz shops two ways; one year he’ll stop by Shenoa Diamonds, starting in September, searching for that perfect Christmas gift for his wife. It will entail weekly visits; one week we’ll look at diamond studs and never quite come together on the proper size. The next week we’ll look at diamond pendants and the right shape will be the obstacle, on and on. Diamond bracelets, too flashy. Okay, next week diamond and sapphire rings, not quite sure. What eventually happens is Mrs. Putz ends up with the short end of the stick again.

The other Mr. Putz, well he shows up with an ambitious agenda on Christmas Eve; the type of agenda that as a designer I know well it would take up 6 weeks to fulfill. While we fill the portions of it that we can, this Mrs. Putz is also, shortchanged.

The morals of this story:

1) As discussed previously focus on your options and the make a well informed decision.

2) The 5 P’s of smart shopping. They are… drum roll please: PROPER PLANNING PREVENTS A PISS-POOR PERFORMANCE

Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday and I’ll tell you why: it’s because it’s about people, family and friends

Let’s talk Turkey!

While I always say my articles here are jewelry inspired it doesn’t mean it should be only about Diamonds, engagement rings and all diamond jewelry all the time. Today let’s talk about my one of my favorite holidays and that would be Thanksgiving.

In my opinion Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday and I’ll tell you why: it’s because it’s about people, family and friends, there are no obligations expected (except maybe being in charge of the stuffing or perhaps the pumpkin pie). It’s about sitting around a large table overeating, drinking wine, stimulating conversation (at my house there will be 11 separate conversations going on and pretty much no one listening par for the course).

Thanksgiving is also about reaching out to others, my brothers and I had a habit of bringing a stray to my parent’s house every holiday, no reason for anyone to be alone on Thanksgiving. They were forewarned about the 11 conversations but it was fun watching their heads spin anyway someone had to listen, but with my father pouring the wine the listening eventually didn’t matter.

So I implore all to make this Thanksgiving extra special, enjoy your friends and families maybe reach out share some kindness with a stranger. Believe it or not but in these trying times we have more to be thankful for, make the day extra special.

A little story…

My husband, being unhappy with my mood swings bought me a mood ring the other day so he would be able to monitor my mood swings better.

We discovered that when I’m in a good mood it turns bright green!

Better yet when I’m in a bad mood, it leaves a big red mark on his freaking forehead.

Maybe next time he’ll buy me a diamond instead!!!


That is an example of what I tend to repeat ad nauseam that a happy wife/girlfriend equals a happy husband/boyfriend. It doesn’t take a tremendous amount of thought to buy that special someone a beautiful piece of diamond jewelry. Whether it is a ring of some sorts or diamond studs or a diamond pendant, bracelet etc., it will be greatly satisfying results to you and most importantly your wife/girlfriend.
